Weird news of the week.
Two Oklahoma brothers who police believe are responsible for stabbing nearly their entire family to death just wanted to be famous for a mass-killing rampage, People magazine reports.
The teens, identified as 17-year-old Michael Bever and his brother, 19-year-old Robert Bever, are charged with first-degree murder. In the courtroom this week for a hearing on the case, according to CBS News, Detective Rhianna Russell with the Broken Arrow Police department said, “They wanted to kill at least 50 people, they wanted to be famous. They wanted a Wikipedia page. They wanted media coverage.”
The alleged killings happened on July 22 and took the lives of 52-year-old David Bever, 44-year-old April Bever, 12-year-old Daniel Bever, 7-year-old Christopher Bever and 5-year-old Victoria Bever, CBS News reports. After the teens were arrested, according to reports, they told police their comprehensive plan and outlined their attack on a USB drive inside their home.
As Crime Feed reported, at the time, two of the teens’ sisters (aged 2 and 13) survived the attacks, and it was one of the girls who first identified her brothers as the murderers.
Though it does not provide any solid details about the boys’ plan, the affidavit reportedly states that investigators would “likely find evidence inside the home, including dark and bloodstained clothes, a mask and gloves, as well as electronic devices that could store ‘information on the planning and execution of a mass homicide.’” CBS News says authorities did recover machetes, swords, cell phones, gloves, computers and more.
There are more disturbing details in this report by KRMG, in which a detective said Robert Bever told him he’d been planning to kill his parents since he was 13, that he admired serial killers, and that the brothers had allegedly planned to chop up their family members’ bodies and stash them in tubs in the attic.
In addition to these new details, officials released a transcript of the 911 call made at the time of the massacre. They reportedly released the transcript of the call because the audio version was too “gruesome.”
Per the Huffington Post, during the killings, one of the Bever girls called 911. The dispatcher noted, “Someone is attacking her family. I can’t get further info.”
The log also says the dispatcher heard “a lot of screaming in the background and I could hear someone trying to be quiet and crying.” At one point, a male picked up and said “hello?” before the line fell silent.
The victims who died were stabbed, and died due to “severe laceration” to their bodies. Both Bever teens have pleaded not guilty.
Police Chaplin Scott Keele told HuffPo, “Our community is in shock. For many of us, we can barely wrap our heads around this event.”
An arraignment is set for February 29 in Tulsa County District Court. CBS says a judge declined Michael Bever’s request to be tried as a juvenile.
The last two days of Anthony Delgado’s 16 months of life were unbelievably brutal.
Delgado’s mother, Marta, had left him with 31-year-old Gloria Fields while Marta reportedly took care of the last details on moving to a new apartment. There are conflicting reports on whether Fields was known in the area for being a babysitter, but according to the child’s grandmother, Marta had been leaving him in Fields’ care for a couple of months.
Fields reportedly used heroin as well as pot on multiple times during the weekend Anthony Delgado was in her care. Whether or not drugs contributed to the horrific chain of torture that ended in the toddler’s death remains to be seen.
Marta had dropped him off on a Friday. On Sunday, Fields reportedly texted Marta, telling her the toddler had fallen and had a bruise on his face. Later that evening, Fields allegedly took Anthony to his uncle’s apartment. The toddler’s grandparents, who also lived in the building, called 911 when they saw the unconscious child. With the 911 operator guiding them, they attempted CPR on the toddler. Unfortunately, it was too late. Anthony Delgado died at Stated Island University Hospital North that night. Police who responded to the 911 call reported that the toddler had injuries consistent with child abuse. The medical examiner’s office determined that Anthony died as a result of “blunt force injuries to the head and torso.” As soon as Anthony’s death was ruled a homicide, Fields was willing to talk, and police videotaped her confession.
Fields reportedly admitted to not just physically abusing Anthony, but sexually abusing him as well. According to the police, Fields put the toddler in his stroller, then slammed the child face-first into the floor. She said she then smacked him numerous times in the head. In addition to internal bleeding, the toddler ended up with multiple skull fractures and a busted collarbone. Authorities also noticed bleeding from the child’s rectum. Fields admitted to shoving a Crayola pencil into the child’s rectum. That pencil was left there for a day and a half. He was also reported to have either a burn or some kind of bite on his penis.
A Texas man reportedly left his three kids in a minivan on the side of the road, then stole the truck of a Good Samaritan who attempted to help.
According to KVVX, Anthony Alfredo Chavez allegedly left the children near an intersection. It was there a passerby saw the kids and pulled over to check what was going on. While calling for help, Chavez jumped in the do-gooder’s truck and drove off.
“The suspect took off, stopped down the road, turned around and came back,” Bell County Sheriff Eddy Lange said. “[He] stopped again and came several different times. Drove up, turned around and came back.”
Though he escaped, the 32-year-old was caught and arrested a few hours later. KWTX reports that the truck was found stuck between two trees. However, the passerby claimed that while his wallet was also recovered, his gun which was located in the vehicle is still missing.
According to Lange, the kids told deputies that their father said they were driving to Dallas to find their mother.
Lange also commented: “Why in the world would anybody leave their small children? We don’t have the answers to that and perhaps we will never know the exact answers. Unless he wants to come forward and open up and tell us.”
The three children are currently in foster care while Child Protective Services locates family they can be placed with. Charges against Chavez are currently pending.
A dirty South Carolina police officer is facing charges for allegedly watching porn on his cell phone and masturbating is his cop car while on duty.
Court records state that a passerby caught Marshall Hardin pleasuring himself while in his vehicle, according to The Smoking Gun. The criminal report points out that the officer “was watching adult pornography on his personal cell phone while rubbing his penis through his uniform pants.”
WJBF also reported that South Carolina’s State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) claims that Hardin then exposed himself before going to a bathroom.
The 41-year-old, who was said to have “stroked his penis two times” while exposed, admitted to his behavior in a statement. He is charged with misconduct in office, which carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence. Hardin is also no longer part of the Camden Police Department.
Police say a woman who was found dead at the bottom of a Las Vegas hotel’s laundry chute was likely killed in an accident, though at first it was unclear. The New York Times reports that 26-year-old Kalli Medina-Brown likely fell 15 floors.
Police initially called Medina-Brown’s death suspicious, but now they don’t think it was intentional. Reports say toxicology results are due back in several weeks.
Medina-Brown’s grandfather, Tony Fratis, spoke out to KTNV-TV and said his granddaughter went to Vegas to celebrate her 27th birthday with her husband. Fratis cried when he told the news station, “I’m sorry we’re not going to see what she could have been.”
According to the news station, detectives told Medina-Brown’s mother that video from inside the D Las Vegas hotel showed her walking in one direction while her husband, Weslee Brown, walked the other way. Her body was reportedly found by hotel staff at 2:40 a.m.
The New York Times says authorities are not planning to make the video public.
On the video, Medina-Brown, who is originally from Sa ramento, California, reportedly walked into a maid’s closet before the clip went dark.
As for the hotel, a spokesperson released this statement:
It’s only mid-February, but we already have an early frontrunner for Worst Mom of the Year.
Georgette Vigil, 36, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is expected to face child abuse charges after she got in a car wreck and left her children behind at the scene. According to police, on Monday evening, Vigil lost control of her SUV on Interstate 40 and crashed into a concrete wall. Her 18-month-old toddler, who was strapped into a car seat, was flung from the vehicle and left on the side of the highway, while her three-year-old child was stuck inside. Thankfully, neither child sustained any serious injuries, though the younger child had a few cuts.
According to the various witnesses who called 911, Vigil’s SUV was moving very fast and crossed several lanes of traffic before crashing. By the time police and paramedics arrived, both Vigil and an adult male passenger – later identified as James Moquino, 34 – were gone.
Shortly thereafter, Vigil — who has been arrested at least five times (two previous mugshots appear above) – was apprehended at an apartment complex about two miles away from the crash, and was taken to a hospital to get treatment for a serious cut on her forehead. Police say she appeared intoxicated, but did not offer further details as they’re continuing to investigate the incident, but it’s expected that she’ll be charged with child abuse, at the very least, as soon as she’s discharged from the hospital.
‘Meanwhile, authorities are still seeking Moquino, who allegedly has an active felony warrant for his arrest, which, they said, is “more than likely the reason he fled.”
They were just 13 and 14 years old — and they were accused of viciously murdering a woman named Angela Wrightson (pictured above) in 2014.
Now, a jury in Leeds Crown Court (England) is hearing about how these two teens — who should have been worried about schoolwork and crushes — allegedly attacked Wrightson more than 100 times with everything from a TV set to a coffee table … before having the audacity to ask unsuspecting police officers to drive them home. While the older of the two girls has reportedly admitted to manslaughter, the jury continues to hear evidence.
The girls, who cannot be named due to their ages, were in local authority care, and had been reported missing by their court-ordered caretaker. According to testimony, the girls had been to Wrightson’s house multiple times on the night she was killed. Wrightson was a known local alcoholic, and had a reputation for buying alcohol and cigarettes for teenagers who wouldn’t otherwise be served.
According to reports, one of the girls posted a photo on Snapchat at 9 o’clock that night that was determined to have been taken inside Wrightson’s home. The photo was of both girls, but Wrightson could be seen in the background — and she already had marks on her face. Over the course of the evening, the girls posted more selfies, and Wrightson soon disappeared from the images. The girls were even seen with bloodstained clothes that night.
Still, officers apparently didn’t suspect them of anything suspicious when they called police later that night to get a ride back home. As they sat in the back of the police van, they were said to have been laughing and joking — still posting photos on Snapchat as police drove them home.
The next morning, Wrightson’s landlord found her body in her apartment. She was naked below the waist. The landlord immediately contacted emergency services. Evidence showed that Wrightson had been assaulted in at least 12 different locations just within that one room. It’s not clear why Wrightson had been stripped from the waist down, and the tabloid news sources are being remarkably restrained in their lack of speculation.
The duo continues to deny murder charges. One of the girls told a friend that it all began when Wrightson threatened them with a knife, but the girls’ stories are not entirely adding up. The trial is expected to continue for a few more weeks.
A British hairdresser was found guilty of murder for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death because she was upset with his Facebook obsession.
According to The Mirror, Terri-Marie Palmer reportedly thrust a bread knife into Damon Searson’s heart. “It’s a carving knife. We literally only got it today. It’s really f****** sharp,”the 23-year-old told emergency authorities. She originally claimed Searson was accidentially stabbed when she threw the blade at him while in the park.
However, it was quickly uncovered that the hairdresser took to Facebook to vent about her boyfriend’s social media usage. “He p***** me off sitting on Facebook, completely blanking me when I’m talking to him,” she wrote.
When emergency services arrived, the 24-year-old Searson was found heavily bleeding from the wound. According to the Daily Mail, a bread knife covered in blood was found nearby. “Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of police officers and paramedics, the injury proved fatal,” Detective Inspector Nina Foley from Lancashire Police commented.
Days before his death, the pair’s relationship became more tumultuous, with Palmer sending him a text message saying “Crying myself to sleep for the second time this week and it’s only Wednesday. Thanks Damon. I’m so angry and hurt I honestly want to f****** stab you.”
The night of the murder, Palmer indicated on Facebook that she was annoyed with him because while she worked he played on his phone, shopped, and added girls on Facebook.
“I tried to work harder to make more money but it was really hard. We wouldn’t speak for ages then when we did talk he would be shouting and trashing rooms and then he would throw the phone,” Palmer said. The 23-year-old also claimed that Searson was a“possessive,” controlling binge drinker.
“I didn’t mean for it to get him,” is what Palmer allegedly said after hearing her boyfriend succumbed to his injuries. Both during police interviews and the trial, she gave conflicting stories about what happened that night in August 2015. Ultimately the jury found her guilty of murder and she will serve a minimum of 12 years before being eligible for parole.
Detective Foley said following the trial: “The events of that night have had far reaching consequences and two families have been left devastated. Sadly, Damon Searson lost his life but Terri Palmer will have to live with the knowledge that she was the one responsible.”
A nurse in California is in hot water for assisting in an emergency surgery while he was, er, more than a little tipsy.
The 59-year-old nurse, Richard Pieri, admits he had been at a casino, where he drank 4-5 beers, at the time he was called in a little before midnight on February 4 to help with an emergency appendectomy.
According to police, there’s video footage of him “stumbling through the parking lot” on his way into the hospital — he even accidentally walked into a concrete barrier. Oops.
A colleague anonymously reported the man after noticing that he was having trouble — and getting “agitated” — while attempting to perform basic tasks like logging into the hospital’s simple computer system.
Pieri was reportedly charged with DUI, recklessly endangering another person, and public drunkenness.
The patient was later readmitted to the hospital for stomach pain, according to The Epoch Times.
As for Pieri? He claimed he had “forgotten he was on call” that night (hence the partying). Someone needs to invest in a calendar app, methinks.
When Xinlei ‘John’ Zhang arrived on U.S. soil, he wasn’t even old enough to get a driver’s license. Now, at 19, he’s going to be spending the next six years of his life in a California jail after he and two others admitted to conduct straight out of Lord of the Flies.
Zhang, along with Yunyao ‘Helen’ Zhai and Yuhan ‘Coco’ Yang, all Chinese nationals, pleaded no contest to charges in the brutal bullying of two other teenagers. Court records indicate that the first (and younger) victim, a 16-year-old girl, was attacked last year at a local restaurant because Zhai thought that the girl had disrespected her. The younger victim was reportedly slapped around and punched for the perceived slight.
The second victim was an 18-year-old female classmate of the trio named Yiran “Camellia” Liu, who investigators say was attacked for two reasons: an unpaid bill at a restaurant, and a boy. The trio pleaded no contest to kidnapping Liu, then taking her to a nearby park. According to investigators, the trio stripped the girl, and then spent the next five hours beating her. She was spat on, punched, and kicked. At one point, Liu testified that she was kicked with high-heeled shoes. Cigarette burns littered her skin. She was even forced to eat her own hair. There are reports that two other teens were possibly involved in the attacks, but they have since been taken out of the country.
Zhang, Zhai, and Yang pleaded no contest to charges of kidnapping and assault. At one point, they reportedly also faced a charge of torture. That charge could have carried a life sentence for the teenagers, but over the course of the trial it was dropped. Zhang was sentenced to six years in state prison for his role in the attacks. Zhai was sentenced to 13 years in prison, and Yang reportedly received a 10-year sentence.
Statements made by the trio indicate that their very status may have contributed to their actions. Zhai reportedly stated that living so far from her parents gave her too much freedom, and she became lost. In her parents’ efforts to give her a better education, they ended up sending her to another country with no supervision.
As Americans see on too many occasions, it is hard enough for students who grew up in the U.S. to go even one state away for college without often getting into some form of trouble. Zhai’s statements indicate that the difficulty might be magnified when someone comes from an environment such as the one in China to the relative freedom of southern California.
A German man was so desperate to not become a father that he reportedly stabbed his 19-year-old girlfriend with a bread knife before lighting her on fire.
A day after the horrific act, the burned body of 19-year-old Maria Peiner was discovered in some woods outside of Berlin by a local walker. In January 2015, the teen — who was 8 months pregnant at the time — thought she was meeting up with boyfriend Eren Toben to buy baby clothes. Instead the 20-year-old man, as well as his friend Daniel Mueller, beat her with a piece of wood and stabbed her with a bread knife, Metroreports.
After this assault, the pair did the unthinkable: they covered her in petrol and set her ablaze. “She was still conscious, it could have been 10, 20, 30 seconds — she was still moving,” Judge Regina Alex commented during proceedings, according to The Independent. Toben was identified as the culprit when authorities discovered his fingerprints on a knife at the crime scene.
“He acted for the sole purpose of taking pleasure in the destruction of another human being’s life,” Judge Alex commented. “For him the crime was a solution, he wanted a free, happy life which he had control over.”
Toben and his accomplice were subsequently sentenced to 14 years in prison. After the trial, the victim’s brother said: “I hope our family can finally have some peace.”
Four people were arrested on Friday night in Palm Coast, Florida, after a melee broke out in a local pizzeria — over garlic knots, of all things. (Yummmm, garlic knots.)
According to the Daytona Beach News Journal Online, Jessica Conti, 25, freaked out after staffers at Palm Coast Pizza gave her an order of garlic knots with cheese on top. That was apparently NOT what the doctor ordered, and Conti reportedly began arguing with the cashier before demanding her money back. She apparently got even more angry when the clerk “placed her money on the counter in what she perceived to be a disrespectful manner” (lolol).
At that point, the publication reports that Conti’s posse stormed the eatery and started throwing food and pizza boxes around, as well as knocking a cash register and fax machine off the counter. They then fled, but a witness identified them and helped authorities track them down and arrest the foursome for the ridiculous incident.
Conti was charged with burglary and criminal mischief, along with Vincent Conti, Hareem Jones, and Shawn Cody. They have since been released from jail.
Investigators say a Florida woman is still in a coma after a brutal Valentine’s Day attack. According to People magazine, Danielle Jones was nearly killed on her 23rd birthday — allegedly by a new roommate she’d met on Craigslist.
According to a Go Fund Me page set up to raise funds for Jones, a family member says she is“intubated and holding on to life.” This after police believe Byron Mitchell allegedly strangled, bludgeoned and “face mutilated” his new roommate inside her Miami apartment. The pair met the week before on Craigslist.
It was only 24 hours after the incident whenLocal 10 says 35-year-old Mitchell was arrested. The horrifying photos of Jones show her wearing a neck brace and a hospital gown, with bruises and stitches all over her swollen face.
The report says Mitchell confessed to the brutal attack, but claims it was in self-defense after she went after him with a knife. Local 10 reportedly found the Facebook profile for Mitchell, who claims to be a health and fitness business owner. It’s not clear if he has a criminal history.
He is currently being held on an attempted murder charge.
You can continue to track updates on Jones’ condition on the official Go Fund Me. As of this writing, Jones remains in a coma at Jackson Memorial Hospital, though her cousin wrote that she had opened her eyes a tiny bit.
A 10-year-old girl who went missing at bedtime on Saturday night was found dead in a field behind her house on Sunday afternoon — and her 16-year-old brother has been arrested.
Few details have emerged yet, but according to the News Herald, Fredrick Matthew Lochridge, 16, has been charged with an open count of murder for the little girl’s death.
Isabella Heffernan was last seen around 10 pm on Saturday night as she went to bed in her Fountain, Florida, home. Her family called police to report her missing around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, and deputies found her body around 4:20 pm yesterday afternoon.
It’s unclear how she died or how authorities came to suspect her brother.
More information is reportedly slated to be released today.
A man in California is on trial, facing charges of kidnapping and rape after authorities say he allegedly took his girlfriend’s daughter, held her captive for years, and forced her to have a child with him.
ABC News says 42-year-old Isidro Garcia was living with the teen and her family at the time she vanished. The report says Garcia was dating the victim’s mother and also living with her siblings.
This week, the mother of the girl testified in court saying she told Garcia he would have to leave their apartment or she was going to pack up their children and go. The mother reportedly said she thought Garcia was giving her daughter inappropriate attention and buying her expensive things.
It wasn’t long after that when her daughter vanished and the woman reportedly received a phone call from Garcia telling her the 15-year-old would not be returning to her family.
The mother filed a missing persons report back in 2004.
Ten years later, the victim went to police after reconnecting with her family on Facebook. The victim, now in her mid-twenties, reportedly told law enforcement she was forced to marry Garcia, have a child with him and she was fearful he would have her deported if she ever tried to leave.
Garcia claims, according to the ABC News report, that he did not rape or abduct the child. Instead, he claims she left an unhappy home and tense relationship with her mom. Garcia says it wasn’t until years later that she “fabricated” the abduction story.
Seth Bank, Garcia’s attorney, showed jurors photos this week of the “happy couple” smiling at their wedding and at their daughter’s birthday parties, ABC News said.
Reports say Garcia has pleaded not guilty. ABC News says the victim and one of her sisters are expected to testify this week.
