Weird news of the week.
A woman in Tennessee is under arrest for allegedly stashing heroin in her vagina (which she then reportedly tried to eat). According to News Channel 9, Jean Carrion-Velazquez was parked for a long time outside a gas station near Nashville; her behavior was suspicious to workers inside.
When police arrived and began to ask questions, according to the report, someone inside the gas station said they believed Carrion-Velazquez was homeless. The arriving officer did a little more research and ran the homeless woman’s identity, which is when the officer discovered she had an outstanding warrant.
After the discovery of the warrant, the report said the officer began to search through Carrion-Velazquez’s belongings and uncovered three used needles. She was transported to a local county jail for processing and that’s when News Channel 9 said Carrion-Velazquez was being strip-searched after being charged with possession and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
During this search, she was asked if she was carrying any illegal contraband, and the woman reportedly replied, “no.” A search of her body ensued, and officers said they found a “folded piece of paper with a white powdery substance inside her vagina.”
When officers doing the search tried to take the paper, the report said Carrion-Velazquez allegedly snatched the paper and attempted to “place the paper in her mouth and swallow it before the sheriffs could grab it.”
It was later revealed, according to News Channel 9, Carrion-Velazquez said the substance was heroin and she was using it to shoot with the needles officers found earlier in their purse.
Charles “Tex” Watson apparently wants his Wikipedia page set straight.
In 1971, Watson was convicted on one count of conspiracy to commit murder and seven counts of murder. All were the result of his time spent with the infamous Charles Manson. One of Watson’s victims in that infamous spree was actress Sharon Tate.Watson’s Wikipedia entry goes into a few known details of the murders that took place in August of 1969. He was sentenced to death, but a 1972 court decision that commuted all death sentences to life imprisonment kept him alive. He has been locked up in Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, California for the last few decades.
The Wikipedian is reporting that the a member of Wikipedia’s Volunteer Response Team posted a request that they believe came from Watson to make changes to his Wikipedia page. That request included a scan of five pages of handwritten edits. Included in those edit requests were some chilling changes to what some had thought were established “facts” of the case, such as asserting that Watson had actually assisted Patricia Krenwinkel in the murder of Abigail Folger and removing the notation that Sharon Tate had cried, “Mother…mother…” as she was stabbed 16 times.
The edits also claim that Watson did not steal $70 from Folger’s purse before stabbing her. The edits did, however, also request restoring a paragraph that talked about a book Watson had written on the murders and his conversion to Christianity.
Wikipedia’s team is reportedly in the process of verifying that these edits did indeed come from Watson. What do you think? Should a convicted murderer be allowed to edit their own Wikipedia entry?
CrimeFeed has, sadly, covered more than our fair share of bodies found stuffed in suitcases over the years. Now, in San Diego, investigators there say they are working yet another case involving a victim found dead inside a suitcase.
According to NBC San Diego, just before lunch on Wednesday a man in the area spotted the suitcase behind a hotel. He spoke out to the station, but did not want to give his name. “I was taking out the garbage and I went around to the back of the building and saw a black garbage can, one of them was turned over,” he said.
The man then noticed a black suitcase next to it, and said he “…saw black hair coming out… It was zipped up, but you could see the hair.” How she died is unclear at this time, but her body was fully intact. The report said her body is currently being processed by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office and they have not released her name, though reports say she was 21 years old.
San Diego Police Lt. Ray Valentin spoke out to the station. He said no missing persons reports have been filed in the area and his teams will be combing the area looking for clues.
Local resident David Bloomer said, “Just goes to show when you think things are safe, they’re usually not.”
A Kansas man is facing possible child abuse charges after his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son was injured from a octopus being stuffed down his throat. (What the…?)
According to WDAF, the mother came home to find Matthew Gallagher giving her son CPR. In addition to sustaining facial injuries, the hospital allegedly discovered a small octopus in his throat. It is believed the 2-inch octopus was intended for sushi.
Though Police Lt. James Espinoza announced the boy is in good condition and expected to have no long-term injuries, a police spokesperson told People the 36-year-old man was arrested because his account was “inconsistent with the child’s injuries.”
Though Gallagher was booked at Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of child abuse, KAKE reports that he has since been released and officials have yet to comment on formal charges.
Well, that’s one incredibly disturbing way to dispose of a body.
According to the New York Post, Svetlana Batukova (pictured above with her dog in a Facebook photo), of Mallorca, is believed to have been experiencing a psychotic episode following a drug and alcohol binge when she allegedly stabbed her husband, German citizen Horst Hans Henkels, to death. What happened next is stomach-turning. The Post writes:
As he lay bleeding out on the floor, she carved off slices of his arm down to the bone and hand-fed them to her beloved dog, authorities said.
Batukova waited hours to call the cops. When police did arrive at the house in the Spanish resort community of Cala Millor in Mallorca, they found her standing next to a pool of Henkels’ blood.
If you need to take a moment to dry heave, I don’t blame you.
The Daily Mail claims there were no defensive wounds on Henkels’ body to indicate he fought back, leading investigators to posit that he may have been drugged before he was stabbed. He’d also recently had surgery on his trachea and may have been unable to call for help as a result. Batukova and Henkels were recently married after what appears to be a tumultuous two-year courtship marked by multiple visits from the police over violent disputes.
According to the Post, Batukova was in court on Monday facing murder charges, but “it is still unclear whether the case will go to trial or how long she could spend in jail as investigators continue piecing together the deadly attack.”
A self-proclaimed “sovereign citizen” is facing a slew of charges after a woman was found tied to a stripper pole in his Detroit, Michigan home.
A lead in a credit card fraud and identity theft case led investigators to the home of Ryon Travis, where authorities found an alleged sex slave chained by her neck in addition to droves of child porn, according to the New York Daily News.
What is a “sovereign citizen,” exactly? The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is less-than-complimentary in their definition:
Sovereign citizens are anti-government extremists who believe that even though they physically reside in this country, they are separate or “sovereign” from the United States. As a result, they believe they don’t have to answer to any government authority, including courts, taxing entities, motor vehicle departments, or law enforcement.
“All laws are commercial in nature, and I’m a natural-born human American man,” Travis said during the detention hearing, according to The Washington Post. “So since all laws are commercial in nature and I choose not to do business with this court, I ask that this case be dismissed.”
The victim claims that she lived with the 32-year-old along with three other women for two years. When she tried to escape, she says he chained her up for two weeks and beat her, court documents obtained by CBS News read.
An investigation was launched against the father-of-seven in March when he was connected to suspicious credit card purchases totaling more than $50,000. When carrying out a search warrant, however, they supposedly also found two cell phones full of child porn. It wasn’t until a second search that they found the 25-year-old living in disturbing conditions.
Travis is facing several charges, including sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and producing, possessing and transporting child pornography. At a recent hearing where the sovereign citizen’s bond was denied, a Magistrate Judge Mona Majzoub criticized him for being in the cops’ cross-hairs yet still pulling a serious stunt.
“I don’t understand how you could have been present at a search in your home on March 2 where you know that phones were taken and were going to be searched, and by the 21st, you have chained a woman against her will, in your home, knowing that agents were looking at you,” she said.
