Weird news of the week.
Fiona Gordon-Macleod, 69, of Putney, VT, is behind bars on charges of attempted murder after she called police to report that she had attacked her roommate with a blunt instrument.
When police and EMS arrived, they found a severely injured 76-year-old woman, and Gordon-Macleod still there. According to reports, it might have all stemmed from the victim balking on a suicide pact between the two women.
Both Gordon-Macleod and the victim had been experiencing declining health over recent years, and neither were happy about losing control of their lives. According to the arrest affidavit, the two had discussed killing themselves together when they were ready, but no actual plans had been put into place. That all reportedly changed on December 17.
On that day, the victim reportedly mentioned the idea of a pacemaker that might help boost her quality of life. Gordon-Macleod grew depressed about the victim questioning their plan, and even reportedly had difficulty sleeping that night. The next morning, Gordon-Macleod apparently grabbed a hammer from their toolbox and headed to the victim’s bedroom. She allegedly decided to kill the 76-year-old roommate and then commit suicide. Gordon-Macleod reportedly hit the victim at least 12 times in the head.
The victim was rushed to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, and the only known injuries are to her head. Her condition is unknown at this time. Gordon-Macleod is being held without bail, and she has been charged with aggravated domestic assault with a weapon as well as attempted first degree murder.
A mother has been charged with murder after her toddler-age child was found dead and stuffed in a suitcase in Florida.
According to a press release posted on the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, deputies were called to a residence in Callaway around 4 p.m. on Tuesday. This occurred after a man stopped by the local fire department and told first responders that his girlfriend had killed their child.
Deputies said when they arrived at the home, both the man and woman were standing outside, and both were “distraught.” Just as a deputy walked toward the woman, according to the release, she confessed to the murder. The Daily Mail claims the woman ranted to officers about a Biblical flood and Noah’s ark, and that she may have been “delusional.”
It was at that point that the woman was taken into custody. She was also treated at a local hospital for a self-inflicted wound, per the Daily Mail. The mother has been identified as 27-year-old Egypt Moneeck Robinson.
A search ensued for the child, reportedly named Aries Juan Acevedo. He was found floating in a pond behind the house, lodged inside a suitcase. According to officials, the child had most likely been dead for more than 24 hours. He may have been killed by a stab wound, according to the Mail.
It was like a horror movie came to life, and passengers on a Carnival Ecstasy cruise got way more than they bargained for after witnessing a wave of blood seeping from an elevator on the ship.
A crew member working on the elevator reportedly died in a horrific incident on Sunday — but all passengers knew at first was that it looked like a scene right out of “The Shining.”
According to KFOR, a man named Matt Davis was headed to dinner with his wife when they stumbled across the terrifying scene. They saw the elevator doors opening and closing, with “blood coming down like a sheet, and not stopping.” Davis also said the sound of the blood was like a “rainstorm.”
Workers soon sealed off the elevator with a sign that read “Sorry, but I’m not working at the moment.”
A spokesman for Carnival has since revealed that an electrician working on the elevator in question had died as the result of an accident. Though the cruise line didn’t identify the deceased, the victim was reported to WFTX as Jose Sandoval Opazo, 66, who worked as an electrician onboard.
The Carnival cruise was reportedly in the final stretch of a 3-day journey from Miami. Davis and his family were understandably excited to get off the ship, and the company has apparently agreed to pay for counseling sessions for them.
A New York postal worker stands accused of throwing away about a thousand holiday gifts and letters (!) because he was “overwhelmed” by how many were coming in for delivery.
According to the New York Post, Daniel Darby is believed to have bought three white trash bags to put the mail into. He then reportedly threw them into a Queens garbage can. They were recovered two days later.
Court documents also allege that the 25-year-old ripped open several pieces of mail to“see what it contains.”
It didn’t take long for the postal worker to admit his naughty behavior to authorities. The New York Daily News reports that he fessed up to going to Stop and Shop to pick up the trash bags and opening up a few pieces of mail.
The reason he gave: that he “overwhelmed by the quantity” of mail he was tasked to dole out during the holidays.
Darby was charged with unlawfully delaying and destroying mail. The Post reports he has been released on $50,000 bail.
In related news, a different NYC postal worker was also accused of stealing gift cards and using them to buy things for himself.
An ISIS all-female police crew reportedly mutilated and killed a mother for breastfeeding in public.
The cop, who allegedly worked under Al-Khansaa, a women’s terror group based in Syria, brutally killed the woman after spotting her feeding her son beneath her burqa, the Daily Mail reported.
While the victim attempted to shield the child from public view while breastfeeding, Al-Khansaa determined she was “violating public decency.”
Prior to her murder, the Daily Mail also claimed the victim was mutilated. “An ISIS policewoman took the baby, gave it to another woman, and then killed the mother,” Aisha, a former Raqqa resident, told the Sunday Times.
Including 60 British women, Al-Khansaa is an all-woman militia created by ISIS to act as the moral police in Raqqa, which the group considers their capital city. The women, who wear all-black burquas, have been accused of brutally beating citizens in public and spying on them in addition to marrying off girls as young as nine.
“Glee” actor Mark Salling was arrested on Tuesday for possession of child pornography. The actor reportedly had more than a thousand illicit images in his computer — some including children under 10 years old, according to TMZ.
TMZ also reports that it was his ex-girlfriend who informed police about the child porn, and the Los Angeles Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force served him a search warrant on Tuesday.
In addition to images showing girls under the age of 10 engaging in sex acts, Salling, who played Puck in the hit series, had other “disturbing” pictures of children being abused.
“I would imagine that would surprise anybody,” said Lt. Andrea Grossman. After several repeated knocks, police had to break into the 33-year-old’s home, she told the New York Daily News.
After officials seized other electronics from the residence, Salling was arrested. By Tuesday afternoon, however, he’d been released on $20,000 bail, KTLA reported.
Salling also had to pay $2.7 million to an ex-girlfriend earlier this year in a sexual battery lawsuit.
Officer Lance Benjamin of the Covington Police Department had an unusual visitor to his patrol car on the morning of Christmas Eve, causing him, to well, crash it.
It happened around 1:45 a.m. on Thursday, when Benjamin felt an owl hit him in the face from his open driver-side window. Benjamin told reporters he could feel it scratching at his neck, clawing at his shoulder, and pecking at his head. He managed to take the sudden visitor in stride, quickly getting the car off the road into a ditch and getting the door open so his surprise passenger could be on his way. Granted, it reportedly took 45 minutes for the owl to gather itself and take off.
The Audobon Society identified the critter as a barred owl. It was such a surprise that when Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz received a text stating that Benjamin had been involved in an accident thanks to a nocturnal bird of prey, he thought it was a joke. Lentz posted on the department’s Facebook page that he next expected a text saying that Santa had been spotted on a local road. He tracked down the video from Benjamin’s body camera to be absolutely sure.
Officer Benjamin was checked out for minor scratches and wounds, given a tetanus shot and antibiotics, and returned to duty. Benjamin’s colleagues have since given him a plush owl to accompany his late night patrols.
The body cam video posted by Chief Lentz can be seen with the Facebook post at this link.
A Florida woman suspected of “grooming” an 11-year-old student for sex was found dead in an apparent suicide.
While responding to a fire in a unit next door, crews discovered the body of Alecia Dotson, who is believed to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Tampa Bay Online reports.
“She was deceased in the shower, she suffered burns and a gunshot wound,” Battalion Chief Williams told Bay News 9.
According to the Daily Mail, the 45-year-old teacher’s aide was arrested in July and pled guilty to attempted sexual battery and using a computer device to solicit a child. She was caught in a sting operation after allegedly bringing strawberry lubricant into a movie theater to have sex with an 11-year-old.
A week prior, the child’s mother became aware of an inappropriate relationship between the two. Nicknaming the boy “love bug,” Dotson allegedly sent the boy more than 100 illicit texts.
“Love bug what are you doing… I’ll be sure to tell her we won’t have sex on the first visit…LOL,” she texted to the boy while detectives were at his home. After another text was sent, it was then detectives took the identity of the boy.
The 45-year-old admitted to police that their initial “mentorship” grew into a “crush” and then a “romantic relationship.”
Police have apprehended a California man they believe covered a woman in gasoline and lit her on fire in an unsettling Christmas attack that resulted in her death.
In an argument with the victim, Dawn Hensley, Clarence Duwell Dear allegedly chased her out of her home, then doused her in gasoline. From there, Dear allegedly lit the woman ablaze with what might have been a cigarette, according to the New York Daily News.
The 41-year-old woman was seen engulfed in flames before collapsing in the street. She reportedly suffered severe burns and was transported to a nearby hospital where she died.
Following the horrific incident, the 51-year-old Dear went on the run. That is, until Sunday morning when police received a valuable tip that he had been seen boarding a bus in Altadena. KTLA reports that both the Pasadena Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies worked to apprehend Dear, who was considered “dangerous.”
According to a press release, Dear was transported to the Pomona Police Department and charged with murder. His bail is set at $1 million.
A 21-year-old martial arts instructor is facing a serious felony charge after allegedly knocking out a 5-year-old boy, NBC News reports.
Police in Prince William County arrested 21-year-old Justin Branick after police say detectives from their department were called out to the Tiger Martial Arts Academy for an investigation.
On Dec. 21, according to the report, police say their investigation revealed that the child was allegedly grabbed by the ankle, thrown over Branick’s shoulder, and then thrown to the ground. These maneuvers caused the victim to lose consciousness, a police report notes.
The Washington Post spoke with Prince William County Police spokesperson Nathan Probus who told the publication that it all happened after Branick got mad for some reason and lost his temper.
Before police realized the extent of what had happened, the child had apparently been taken to the hospital and released quickly, the Post said. It wasn’t until after an employee called authorities, the report notes, that officers re-contacted the family and had them take the child back to the hospital.
It was during the second visit, the Washington Post says, when the victim was treated for serious injuries.
Although Branick was charged with one count of felony child abuse, he was released on a $5,000 bail.
